2017 CME BC Pre-Budget Submission

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters BC sent its pre-budget submission to the Standing Committee on Finance on October 16, 2017.

The submission made four key points for the provincial government to consider as it prepares its budget plans for the coming fiscal year.

  1. Delay or cancellation of major projects could have a negative impact on the economy and government needs to consider that in its revenue projections.
  2. Government should not overburden industry with ongoing, incremental increases to the cost of doing business. The cumulative impact of such burdens would have a chilling impact on economic growth.
  3. Government should assist manufacturers in dealing with increased carbon taxes by using the revenue to fund initiatives that allow industry to invest in advanced equipment that reduces their carbon footprint and environmental impact.
  4. Government needs to consider the recommendations of the 2016 Commission on Tax Competitiveness with regards to the PST to help create a more competitive tax regime in the province.
