CME welcomes BC LNG Project announcement

Published by Glenda Beaulieu on October 02, 2018

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) welcomes today's announcement that the BC LNG project will be going forward. This $40 billion project, the largest private sector project in Canada's history, will mean significant opportunities for Manufacturers in BC and across Canada.

Andrew Wynn-Williams, BC Divisional Vice-President stated, "CME is pleased to see the BC LNG project go forward, especially considering there has been a great deal of uncertainty surrounding major projects in Canada. Energy remains a key component of Canada's export profile and this project will provide a significant boost to our overall economy and for manufacturers to take part in the supply chain. The potential economic benefits go well beyond the specifics of this project."

LNG Canada is a joint venture by Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi and KOGAS. The companies believe B.C.'s short shipping distance and significant natural gas reserves give it a competitive advantage over plants in the United States with respect to Asian markets.
